Hon Dr Ajibola Muraina, the Member representing Ibarapa Central/ Ibarapa North Federal Constituency in the 9th House of Representatives on Saturday October 9, 2021 joined his constituents to celebrate the uniqueness of Igbo-Ora for a high frequency of twins birth at the grand finale of Igbo-Ora World Twins Festival.

The Igbo-Ora World Twins Festival is a cultural tourism event aimed at promoting the multifunctional twinning cultural heritage of the Land of Twins, Igbo-Ora, Oyo State. The theme of the 2021 celebrations, “Twinning For Global Medical Breakthroughs” was chosen as a way of celebrating the medical team of National Medical Centre, Abuja that successfully separated the conjoined Martins twins in 2020.

The event is not only the celebration of twins, it is the celebration of multiple births, however twins are the more frequent of multiple births, hence the tag, ‘Twins Festival’. In fact, some family compounds in Igbo-Ora have been named ‘Ile-Ibeta’ because of the frequency of triplets births in these compounds.

The largest frequency of multiple births and particularly twins in the world occuring at Igbo-Ora was established by medical research confirming that for every 1000 live births in Igbo-Ora, at least 156 are twins, hence the title: World Capital of Twins.

In his remarks at the event, Hon Muraina attributed the uniqueness of the frequency of multiple births in Igbo-Ora to the blessings of God, saying it cannot be fully explained by the diet of the people or the water they drink. He further pointed out that Members of the House of Representatives in the 9th Assembly were made aware of the mysteriously high frequency of twin births in the community during the presentation of his bill on the establishment of Federal Medical Centre, Igboora.

The colourful event at which Hon Dr Muraina and Hon Sarafa Olaoniye, who accompanied him were presented with Awards of Excellence was graced by the Life Grand Patron of the festival, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi Atanda, the Alaafin of Oyo; the Olu of Igbo-Ora, Oba Jimoh Olayide Titiloye, Asoroolu Ayinla V; the LOC Chairman of the event HRM Oba Adedamola Badmus, Olu-Aso of Iberekodo, Igbo-Ora, other monarchs and eminent Ibarapa sons and daughters.
