The Asigangan of Igangan, His Royal Majesty, Oba Rafiu Olaniyi Adeniyi Ariwoola, has called on Sons and Daughters of Igangan to rally round him in the development of Igangan town. He equally appreciate the Executive Governor of Oyo State, His Excellency, Eng. Oluseyi Makinde for his supports during his official coronation on 19th February, 2024.

The monarch who expressed this during an interview with Asako news at his palace, described his solely nomination as shocking and miraculous, used the medium to appeal to investors, most especially Igangan people in diaspora to come home to invest, as Igangan town is now calm, peaceful with enabling environment for agricultural activities.

Exerpts:

*Asako: How do you feel, when you are called by your family as their nomination to the stool?*

I was shocked, I declined their request, I said NO. I nearly ran away. But you know, if God destines, no man can deny. I am grateful to my fathers, my kinsmen, I am proud of them. If I come to this world again, I pray to come through them again. They made the process so easy for me through their unanimous supports.

*Asako: You mean your nomination has no opposition or objection*?

No! It’s very rare. I was the sole nomination. The very day my name was nominated, all the family members accepted me with love. This is the main reason why I am so confident to rule. Their love, respect and honour is my source of joy and inspiration.

*Asako: Can you brief us the brief history of Igangan*

Thank you. Igangan was founded by Adegunwa Asabunmi Asake who migrated from Apamatako where there was a chieftaincy crisis. She left in annoyance. During her adventure, she met a hunter named Odekunle Arowo Ogun buna and the duo later became husband and wife. Odekunle is a hunter while Adegun Asake sells food to Egba and Egbado traders. She built her tent very close to a tree locally called “IGAN-N-GAN.” So when the traders who wanted to buy food asked for where they could be bought, they were directed to Adegun’s tent, built very close to Igan-n-gan tree, from here the name of the town, Igangan emanated. As the settlement became peaceful, other neighboring villagers of asunnara, Akao, Idiyan. Apodun. Ilogbo. Igitele and Apamatako joined the settlement. This they did to escape several invasions of Darhomy, Fulani etcThe first Baale of Igangan (Asigangan) was Adegun’s Son, Olagbedu whose Chieftaincy was approved by Alaafin Atiba as custom demands then. There are two ruling houses for Asigangan stool, Aribiyan and Adelokun.

*Asako: Kabiesi, do you have any message for Sons and Daughters of Igangan?*

I am proud of Igangan people. They have been giving me outmost supports, right from my nomination process to coronation. I appreciate them all. War is finally over in Igangan, we thank God for this. I enjoined all sons and daughters of Igangan to come back home to invest. Igangan is now peaceful.
