BREAKING….. DAMILOLA OKEGBEMI TO CO-ORDINATE IGBOORA TWINS FESTIVAL 2023
As Igboora community in Ibarapa axis of Oyo State, set to host the world for another unique world twins festival, a tourism promoter and communication expert, Damilola Okegbemi has been appointed to take over from Taiwo and Kehinde Oguntoye, who have been the twin ambassador since the inception of the modern global celebration.
Damilola Okegbemi was pronounced and appointed to take over as Operating Officer for Igbo-ora World Twins Festival 2023 by Igboora traditional rulers at a meeting held on 27th June, and officially confirmed today 16th July, 2023 at a committee meeting presided over by HRM
Oba Jimoh Olajide Titiloye, the Olu of Igboora.
Damilola Okegbemi, a tourism promoter and communication expert is hope to bring her
wealth of experience and passion to this esteemed role.
Igbo-ora World Twins Festival is a highly anticipated annual event which gathers twins globally to celebrate
their unique bond and embraces the rich cultural heritage of Igbo-ora.
Fact remain that about 1.6 million twins are born annually in the world which translates to a rate of 13.1 twins per 1000 births.
Also, research reveals, that Yorubaland which includes Nigeria Southwest, parts of the Republics of Benin and Togo, is the leading ethnic group across the globe for twin births, with an annual twinning rate of 40.2 twins per 1000 births.
Equally, Igbo-Ora is regarded as the town with highest annual twinning rates in the world, with an annual twinning rate of 50 twins per 1000 births.
As child mortality rate in between 201 deaths per 1000 births in 1990
to 58.2 deaths per 1000 births in 2021, which implies that the actual twinning rates in Igbo-Ora would be higher than the figure quoted above.
Speaking with Asako news crew after the appointment,
Damilola OKEGBEMI said:
“I am committed to showcasing the beauty of twinhood and the
cultural diversity of Igbo-ora. This festival will provide an exceptional platform for twins to connect, share their stories, and create lasting memories.”
