Law maker representing Ibarapa Central/ North at the 9th assembly Lower chamber, Hon. Dr Ajibola Muraina has charged secondary school students to work hard in the development of their writing skills because it is essential to their success as students as much as it will be essential to their successful functioning as adults later in life.

The lawmaker representing the constituency at the 9th House of Representatives gave the charge to the students in his constituent who gathered at the second edition of Olawunmi Agbeke Muraina Annual Memorial Essay Competition held at Methodist Grammar School, Igbo-Ora on Saturday May 21, 2022.

In a release made available to Asako reporters, signed by his S.A on media, Olubunmi Shodipo, the law maker said:

“Although as students, you will have a lot of opportunities to verbally interact and communicate with your teachers and fellow students, the most important communications, towards your academic success are written, i.e, examinations and continuous assessment tests. As a student, it is not enough to have great ideas and know the right answers to questions, you must be able to write them down in a clear and concise manner to get full marks in an examination and achieve academic success.”

“Even as adults, you most probably will have to write an application to earn a desirable job appointment or attract customers to your chosen business. Your success on the job or business will depend a lot on how well you can communicate in writing, i.e memos, notices, adverts, et cetera to your employers, superiors, colleagues, employees or customers.

The essence of the essay writing competition is to motivate the development of writing skills amongst secondary school students in our constituency”, Hon Muraina concludes.

The event was the second edition of an essay competition named after Hon Muraina’s late mother. The participating students wrote on the high rate of drop-outs from amongst secondary school students in Ibarapa and suggested causes and solutions to the problem.

Twenty seven (27) schools were represented by fifty four (54) students at the event. The three schools that excelled at the competition will be awarded their prizes on May 27, 2022 at a grand commemoration of Children’s Day 2022 being organized by Hon Ajibola Muraina.
