OFFICIAL PRES RELEASE

July 3, 2024

OUR CONSTITUENCY DEMANDS ATTENTION FROM OUR STATE REPRESENTATIVE

The Congress of Eruwa Youths, along with the entire community, expresses deep dissatisfaction with the inadequate representation we have been receiving from the Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin.

Before the 2023 general election, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin assured the youth and the broader community that he would provide effective representation. However, since assuming office, these promises have not been fulfilled.

The Speaker has distanced himself from his constituency, neglecting the critical duty of observing and addressing the needs and concerns of those he represents. It is essential for a representative to be present and engaged to understand the challenges faced by the community. If Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin cannot reside in his constituency, he should at least visit frequently.

One significant unfulfilled promise is the completion of the Temidire Secondary School building, which has remained abandoned for months. We anticipated that the Speaker, given his influential position, would have ensured its completion, but this has not happened.

Despite holding the third-highest position in the State, our community has not benefited. While other zones in the State have experienced positive impacts from the government led by Engr. Seyi Makinde, our constituency has been neglected.

Given his high-ranking position, our constituency should have seen substantial benefits from the current government. Furthermore, the Speaker promised to donate five million naira for constructing the Eruwa Grade A Customary Court. Currently, activities of the GAC are temporarily conducted at the community Town Hall. This promise, like many others, remains unfulfilled.

The only infrastructural project that could benefit our community, the New Garage/Oke Ola/Isale Elesin road, has been abandoned for a long time. Comparatively, an assembly member from the Saki axis financed and completed a significant project for the Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) in his town. There is no reason our representative cannot undertake similar projects.

Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin has neglected our constituency to such an extent that there have been no developmental or personal projects initiated or financed by him since his tenure began.

In light of the current economic challenges, many political office holders have implemented empowerment programs to alleviate the suffering of their constituents. Unfortunately, our constituency has not seen any such initiatives since Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin returned to the 10th Assembly.

As the representative of Eruwa youths, Rt. Hon. Speaker Adebo Ogundoyin has been avoiding us since the beginning of the year. Despite promising in January to meet with us and discuss the community’s needs, he has not been available.

We can no longer endure this neglect silently. The Speaker must honor his promises and take action. If he genuinely intends to run an inclusive government, as he claimed during the election, we should not be facing this neglect and inefficiency.

Our constituency should feel the impact of having the third citizen in the State. The Eruwa Youth Movement will not hesitate to advocate for the betterment of our constituency. Our community urgently needs the government’s attention; abandoned projects must be completed, and all promises must be fulfilled.

Signed

Eruwa Youth Movement Executives
