Royal Star College, Igboora High School, and Igboora Secondary School win FISU INTER-SECONDARY SCHOOL DEBATE

Federation Of Igboora Students’ Union IGBOORA INTER-SECONDARY SCHOOL DEBATE, themed: “Universal Access to College Education: A path towards Eradicating Illiteracy and Empowering Society” held on Monday, 20th February, 2023 had Royal Star College coming first, Igboora High School came second, while Igboora Secondary School came third

The debate program held at Aridunu Hall, Igbole, Igboora has in attendance dignitaries including Prof. Kehinde Akinola Akinlabi, Rector Oyo State College of Agriculture and Technology Igboora, Mr. R.F.A Adeniji, Registrar of Oyo State College of Agriculture and Technology Igboora, Prince Tayo Akinyemi, a frontline community developer and former Sub-Dean, Student Affairs, Oyo State College of Agriculture and Technology who also double as representive of the Chief Host, Prof. Fatimah AbdulKareem

In his opening speach, the National President of FISU, Com. Olaniyi Oludare John appreciated God for the grace and opportunity
of the successful host of the program. He appreciated the support and presence of participating schools, stakeholders and personalities who have always been pillars of support for the Union.

According to him :
“We give God Almighty all the glory for how far He has helped us on this program; we also appreciate FISU members for electing us to be the Executive of this union for the year 2023; we are renewing our promise today that our main goals will be improving the union standard and building unity that will transform into development”.

“We organize this program mainly to improve our students in public speaking, and critical thinking and to balance the gap between private and public school standard, we use this medium to request our politicians invest heavily in education infrastructure, updating our school laboratory, and school library, provision of writing materials at various levels”.

In her goodwill message, the Chief Host, Prof. Fatimah Abdulkareem who spoke through her Representative, Prince Tayo Akinyemi counselled the students on the need to take academics very seriousl as Education gives an upper hand and the key to achieving heater things in life, uplifts their standard of living and that of their families.

Education gives exposure that even impacts health and social life.
According to Prince Akinyemi:

“You may decide to do any other thing but make sure you complete secondary school and aspire to be graduates”.

“You should desist from indulgence in hard drugs, it ruins lives, can make one run mad, and make nonsense of one existence”.

According to the University of Lagos Don: “I congratulate FISU for taking this up, we did this during our time. One of the mandates of my foundation is extramural coaching for science students aspiring to study health-related courses like medicine, pharmacy, physiotherapy, medical lab science, radiography, or nursing. FAJIM Medicare Foundation is ready to collaborate with FISU whenever they are set to organize this. I pray Allah will make students cool in their parent’s eyes and pray that FISU members will succeed in all their endeavors”

In his own remark, the Rector of Oyo State College of Agriculture and Technology Igboora; Prof. Akinola Kehinde Akinlabi advised the participating students to stop cutting corners during academic pursuits. He advised students to shun any form of violence but to look for the progress of the community, the state, and the country at large.

The inter-secondary debate ended amazingly having Royal Star College school emerged first position with 83.35%, Igboora Secondary School Second position with 81.20%, while Igboora High School came third position with 80.95%.

Iberekodo High School emerged fourth position with 80%, A.U.D fifth with 78.50%, Favourland sixth with 77.65%, Igboora Grammar School with seventh position with 77.85%, Lasogba High School eight position with 71% and Ogboja Grammar School with nineth position with 69.50%.

Showing appreciation on behalf of the Union, the Education Committee Chairperson Atanda Christanah Temitope who also double as the Union Vice President appreciated all the stakeholders and all the participants.
