Casual Staffs of the Adeseun Ogundoyin Polytechnic Eruwa, (AOPE) have made a request to the Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde to consider them with full time employment opportunity.

The staffs who made the call while briefing newsmen on Monday appealed to the Governor of Oyo State to consider them with full employments so that they will be able to enjoy the full benefits of government workers.

Obviously, there are some issues surrounding the employment status of casual workers such as long years of career stagnation, meagre amount of money as salary especially at this challenging period when the nation is wrecked by the fuel subsidy mantra.

Our correspondent also gathered that, Adeseun Ogundoyin Polytechnic have not made any recruitment exercise even when the previous administrations in the state were in government, yet, some institutions in the state have done twice and even more.

Our finding revealed that the institution is the most deprived human capacity and short staffed state institution in Oyo state, despite the fact that NBTE has accredited more courses in the institution but suffering from adequate and enough manpower. Regrettably, with many years gone that the school has been granted autonomy, there has not been any substantial appointment.

One of the casual staff who spoke with newsmen expressed his dissatisfaction on the shortage of academic and non academic staffs in the institution .

He said, “For over eight years that I have been in the institution, no employment has taken place whatsoever. Despite having different administrations in the state before now, none of them has ever taken the issue of staffing serious.

“The only thing which gave us hope now is having a listening Governor, no doubt he put in all his best to reposition the state to its pacesetter status. It’s our believe that Governor Seyi Makinde will make employment of staffs in our institution considering the low level of manpower we have at present.

“As casual staff, working on contract for a very long time in the institution, we have committed ourselves by giving the best to the growth of the institution. We humbly and politely request that the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr Seyi Makinde consider those of us who are casual staffs before other people.

Another casual staff who also prefer not to reveal his identity said. “Most institutions of learning are facing human resource challenges following the obstruction on recruitment for years. Everybody knows that the outcome of an educational institution will be affected due to shortage of full time and permanent staffs.

“We are calling on the state government under the leadership of Governor Seyi Makinde to kindly grant order on the recruitment process in our institution, and to consider those of us that are casual staffs with full time job opportunities.

The contract workers equally expressed that creating decent jobs aside from the casual jobs that doesn’t enjoy the benefits of government labour will aid economic productivity and go a long way in lifting many people out of poverty.

The staffs said they have send several letters to the State Ministry of Education and the Governor requesting for conversion to full time staffs.

Our correspondent reliably gathered that some of the casual staffs have spent more than eight years as contract workers which contravenes the provisions of the Labour Act.
