Nigeria at 62: Despite our many challenges, we have reasons to keep hope alive…… Olusegun Okanlawon
As Nigeria celebrate her 62nd Independence Anniversary, a House of representative candidate under the umbrella of Accord Party for Ibarapa Central and North Federal constituency, Eng. Dr. David Olusegun Okanlawon has congratulated Nigerians and people of his constituents, urging them to take the anniversary as another opportunity to reflect on the past, evaluate present and reconnect with future.
In his special independence message made available to Asako news, Okanlawon
admonished Nigerians to use their present challenges as reasons to keep hope alive.
According to Okanlawon, one of such reasons is the fact that the populace have opportunity to elect new representatives and leaders in the forthcoming elections which avails them the ability to change the status quo. He said: “we can refuse to reward mediocre representation”.
His message read: “Having invested in high-impact community development projects (principally in education, health and youth empowerment) over the years, I have seen how limited personal resources can be. I have seen how rightly-formulated policies can easily transform people and communities for good. I have also seen how political leaders would only do what they wish, notwithstanding appeals and recommendations from individuals and groups”.
He furthered: “Knowing that we cannot continue in stagnancy, I felt obligated to do more. Having interacted with thousands of our people, I realized my moral responsibility to get involved in politics and governance. This was why I decided to offer myself as your representative at the Federal House of Representatives come 2023.”
“My candidacy is not because I am the best among us. Rather, it is because we share the same collective aspirations for our community: development, growth and progress. These are the things I represent. These are what I have stood for, advocated for, and spent myself and my resources on.”
“My life work and contributions show that I have the intellectual capacity of a lawmaker, the heart of a community developer and philanthropist, and the mouth of an activist. By the grace of God, I am ready and able to combine these qualities with the astuteness of our young people and discernment of our community to champion a constituency that we will all be proud of. I do not desire to be the best representative our constituency has ever had. Rather, I want us to have our best experience of representation ever, a representation that will become the standard for evaluating representation in our constituency and beyond”.
“I assure you of quality and effective representation at the green chambers towards the development of our constituency. My understanding of how government works and my vast experience in the private and philanthropic sectors have prepared me for the enormous tasks ahead.”
