The 2022 Muraina Saubana Ajibola Football Competition for secondary schools on Tuesday May 17, 2022 kicked off simultaneously in several towns across Ibarapa Central/Ibarapa North Federal Constituency on Tuesday May 17, 2022.

In his goodwill message signed by the Lawmaker’s spokesman, Olubunmi Shodipo, made available to Asako Reporters, the founder and sponsor of the football competition, Hon Dr Ajibola Muraina, who also doubles as member, House of Representatives representing Ibarapa Central/ Ibarapa North at the 9th House of Representatives, charged secondary school students in his constituency to ensure that their education is complete and well rounded by participating and excelling in sporting activities in their various schools.

The football teams of participating schools in the competition squared off against one another with some of the results as follows:

1. Methodist Grammar School, Igbo-Ora stunned Adegoke College, Igbo-Ora by a 4 – 0 scoreline.
2. Igbo-Ora Grammar School defeated Lasogba High School by 4 – 1.
3. Igbo-Ora High School walloped Royal Group of Schools by 5 – 0 although Royal Group of Schools having fielded the youngest team in the competition was impressive and had loud support from the spectators.
4. Igbo-Ora Secondary School (which was last year’s winner of the first edition) failed to show up against Police Secondary School. Consequently, there was a walkover with the customary 2 – 0 awarded in favour of Police Secondary School, which saw the team proceed into the next round.

Hon Muraina noted that the objective of the competition is to provide a platform for young Ibarapa football talents to come to light firstly by the students themselves discovering their latent abilities and secondly by providing an opportunity for their talents to be showcased to those who will value it and open up a sporting career for them.

He said, “The present reality of our times is that sports is a veritable career choice and can be a big income earner for those God has endued with the talents to excel in it. More importantly, it has been observed that the most outstanding careers in sports are enjoyed by those who start in it early, hence our focus on secondary school students in this initiative.”

Mr Wahab Kasali, the Secretary of the football competition committee, on behalf of the committee and participating students voiced his appreciation of Hon Muraina’s efforts as he expressed confidence that the objectives of the competition will be achieved.

The finals of the football competition will hold on Friday May 27, 2022 at a grand celebration of Children’s Day, 2022 being put together by Hon Ajibola Muraina.
